Does not compute

These attacks by Israeli military forces which endanger UN facilities acting as places of refuge are totally unacceptable and must not be repeated. Equally unacceptable are any actions by militants which endanger the Palestinian civilian population.
-Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary-General

The Bureau of the Committee demands that Israel end, immediately and unconditionally, its brutal military campaign against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
-The Bureau of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People

Look at the conditions in Gaza: more and more, it resembles a big concentration camp.
-Cardinal Renato Martino, president of the Vatican's Council for Justice and Peace

The Holocaust, that is what is happening right now in Gaza
-Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez

This always surprised me. Why can't any American politician criticize Israel in any way for their behavior?
-Jon Stewart

Be prepared for a unique surprise, you will be either killed or kidnapped and will suffer mental illness from the horrors we will show you.
-Izzedin Al Qassam Brigades

5.4 million

400,000

65,000

3,400

900.

Something doesn't quite add up here.

The first number, 5.4 million, was the number of people killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo since a 1998 civil war began. That war continues today despite numerous peace treaties.

The second number, 400,000, is the number of people killed in the Darfur region of the Sudan since a 2003 outbreak of violence between the government-backed Janjaweed militias and the secular "rebels" of the region. Approximately 100 additional people were killed there a few of weeks ago. Fighting continues in Darfur today.

The third number, 65,000, is the number of Sri Lankans killed since the late 1980s, most of which have been civilians. During the war in Gaza, the Sri Lankan government forces overran the last stronghold of the Tamil Tigers -- a group considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. government -- at the expense of dozens of civilians. Approximately 50,000 government troops are currently advancing through the jungle, taking aim at the rebels.

The fourth number, 3,400 is a conservative estimate of the number of Palestinians killed by the Jordanian government in the span of 11 days during the Black September Jordanian civil war of 1970. Palestinian estimates claimed more than 20,000 dead.

The final number, 900 is the number of Palestinians killed as of Jan. 13 in Israel's current war of self-defense against Hamas, the vast majority of which have been terrorists.

Yet it is Israel that is condemned by the U.N., the Vatican, and the rest of the world. It is Jews that are attacked all over Europe and Israeli sports stars that are demonized for the defensive actions of their homeland.

Why is this? How can this be? How can 900 dead Palestinians cause so much international commotion while more than five million dead Africans cause nothing? Where are these sweeping quotes from all over the world when every day more innocent people die in these conflicts than have died during the entire span of the Israeli operation against Hamas? Where are the protests? Where are the calls for action, the Holocaust imagery, the demands for immediate ceasefires? Where are the rushed Security Council meetings?

The numbers just do not add up.

Interestingly, the answer lies not in the hate-filled comments from buffoons like Hugo Chavez.

Or comedians/apologists like Jon Stewart.

Rather it is statements like Ban Ki-Moon's that provide a glimpse into how the U.N. and the rest of the "peace camp" view this conflict.

So you don't have to scroll up here is that quote again:

These attacks by Israeli military forces which endanger UN facilities acting as places of refuge are totally unacceptable and must not be repeated. Equally unacceptable are any actions by militants which endanger the Palestinian civilian population.

Let's break this down for a minute. At first glance this quote is standard, even-handed political double-talk. We condemn one side, but we condemn the other side also. Neither side is right; they're both wrong. When you're trying to be an umpire, you have to be impartial, right?

But that's not what's going on here.

The secretary-general is saying that Israel attacking places of refuge is unacceptable. Then he says Hamas using those same places of refuge is equally unacceptable. However, this is a huge logical fallacy! It's not equally bad because if Hamas did not use schools as bases to bomb Israelis in the first place, the IDF would not have to attack the school! If two people get into a fistfight they are not EQUALLY liable...whoever throws the first punch is responsible for everything that happens afterward because if that person had not initiated the action - the fight would never have occurred. In Ban Ki-Moon's version of reality, Hamas did not start this fight...both parties are equally liable for it. And to take that stance in a clear war of self-defense, where a UN member state is aiming to protect its citizens from a terrorist entity, shows that the Secretary General and by extension the entire UN are simply not an honest broker in this matter.

By claiming there is moral equivalency between both sides when one side clearly initiated the fighting, when that same side DELIBERATELY targets innocent civilians while the other side showed restraint for EIGHT YEARS and takes great pains to AVOID killing innocent civilians, the United Nations is actually saying is that Hamas is right and Israel is wrong. If Hamas has an equal right to put civilians in harm's way as Israel does to defend their civilians from being put in harms way...what he is actually saying is that Israel DOES NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO DEFEND ITS OWN CIVILIANS FROM HAMAS ROCKETS. But it does have an obligation to protect Palestinian civilians from the actions of Hamas! Therefore there actually is no moral equivalency. Hamas is right and Israel is wrong.

And there it is. That's the difference between all those other conflicts and this one. This is why the UN has acted like it regretted passing the Partition Plan ever since 1947. Unlike the Congolese or Sri Lankan conflicts, there is no ambiguity here in the eyes of the UN. The Palestinians are right and the Israelis are wrong. Why else would the Palestinians be the only ethnic group on the planet to even have a "Bureau of the Committee on the Exercise" of their "Inalienable Rights" ?? In the eyes of the UN, the Palestinians are treated more unjustly than the Tamils of Sri Lanka and the secular Africans of Darfur and Congo. And we know the problem is the Jews because we do not have demands from the UN (or anyone else) that the Jordanians take responsibility for the Palestinians, despite the fact that Jordan killed significantly more Palestinians in the span of a few years than Israel ever has.

Using this warped logic, numbers like 5.4 million, 400,000, and 65,000 are somehow less than 900 and deserve less worldwide moral outrage. The numbers, in the end, DO add up.

But to any rational person...this line of thinking just does not compute.

In Islamic theology, the world is divided into Dar al-Islam - the lands where Islam is supreme, and Dar al-Harb - the domain of war which must be conquered by Islam.

The population of the world is divided into Muslims and Kuffars (non-believers). Muslims are superior to Kuffars who are 'najis' (filthy or polluted).

The Kuffars themselves are further divided into Dhimmis and Harbis. A Dhimmi is a Kuffar who pays the Jizya (protection money) and accepts the supremacy of Islam, and may be allowed to live. A Harbi is a Kuffar who does not accept the supremacy of Islam, and must be killed.

So Islam is at war with us and always has been, and always will be until we submit, pay the Jizya and 'feel ourselves subdued', as the Koran says.

Terror is an essential aspect of Islam. Mohammed himself said 'I have been made victorious through terror'.

So remember folks...

YOU MIGHT NOT BE INTERESTED IN JIHAD, BUT JIHAD IS INTERESTED IN YOU!

Its quite easy to understand really. Israel was established by the west and by white western colonists. Therefore, we are continually told it represents western values and interests. Also it is funded by the west (USA) like no other nation. So the atrocities israel carries out are funded by the west. during the 80s apartheid was the big issue. Again perpetrated by white colonists, even though there were wars such as Afghanistan and Iran-Iraq going on. Its easy to understand, except it seems by neo-con zionist types.

Your post, whilst being both true and completely relevant, will be buried amidst the avalanche of 'progressive' commentary, bias and hatred of the only Democratic State in the whole of the Middle East.

Democratic if your an Israeli jew, not so democratic if your palestinian....sorry i mean an Israeli arab. I forgot you can't call yourself a palestinian if you live in Israel. Israeli arab it is then.

The Israeli Arabs had more rights than any other of their kind in the entire middle east.

Dont forget that Jihad 1 and 2 took half the Christian Europa and half of India, slaughtering 60 millions Hinuds + even more added by Zoroastrians + Bhuddists + Animists + Christan and Jews which sums up to more killings then Hitler + Mao + Stalin + Pol Pot + the 7 seven crusades...Islam Have killed most then any other in the latest 2000 year of history.
(google for killings of Islam)

Palestine has never been a state and will never be a state.
The only who offered Palestinians a state was the jews - twice it has been rejected.

Hamas has implemented unvolountary martyrship and hide weapon and factories amongst civilians as their ideologi suggests - therefor there are civilan casualties - because they are cannon fodder selected by Hamas.

I hope Israel can whipe out Hamas once and for all or they will have to redo this operation again.

A Dhimmi can have protection after paying tax - but this protection is not due when it comes to religious conversion - then there are no protection and you can submit or die.

The only palestinians there are, are the remnents from Syra-Palestina which was a roman city inhabited by Jews and Christians before Islam existed - therefor Arabic mooslems can not be palestinians.

The only real Palestinians are jews or christians...where are they? Was those whiped out by mooslems??

At least UN is not trying to be politically correct to terror and martyr (of there own and involountarys expense) and to nations with a clear hieraki system where mooslem men submit to Allah (a reconstruction of four other goods with the name of al-La and an ending to the divine familymember) mooslem women subit to the mooslem men and the rest of us submit to a nazi-sharia

Well Mr./Mrs. Anonymous #1, this is an excellent point that I think is lost on too many people. Everyone acts like this fight is over Gaza, or the West Bank or Jerusalem or even Israel...but as you can see in here - something Hamas talks about is that Israel is only the beginning. They want to sit on the "throne of the world" - not just Gaza City. Even if every Jew and American were uprooted and taken out of the Middle East entirely...they still have scores to settle with:

Spain and

Greece and

Austria and

Kashmir and

Serbia and

countless, countless other places that are not currently ruled by radical Muslim fanatics. Israel has always been the front line of this battle dating back to the Crusades. I mean they TELL you this on a daily basis but everyone still wants to act like Zionism is the problem. Was Zionism the problem during the Caliphate too??

Which brings me to my next point...

"Israel was established by the west and by white western colonists."

No that's actually not true. Israel was founded by the children of Israel, namely the Jews approximately 3000 years ago. It was RE-established by their descendants who over time migrated to Europe and returned back to their ancient homeland.

"Therefore, we are continually told it represents western values and interests."

It's a liberal democracy. The people are represented, both men and women as well as all religions and ethnicities have equal rights under the law. If you need to be "told" that those are Western values - you probably should have paid more attention during Social Studies class.

"during the 80s apartheid was the big issue. Again perpetrated by white colonists, even though there were wars such as Afghanistan and Iran-Iraq going on. "

What does this have to do with the price of tea in China. Interesting how the rest of the world didn't care about any of that stuff (including the UN) yet whenever Israel does anything it's condemncomdemncondemn. Refresh my memory, how long were those conflicts? How many people died? How many Security Council resolutions were there demanding an immediate cease-fire? Thanks for proving my point, kid.

"Its easy to understand, except it seems by neo-con zionist types."

You mean it's hard to understand for people who believe in Jewish self-determination. It's easy to understand for people who believe that Jews should go back to being homeless nomads at the mercy of the rest of the world that turned its back on them at least twice or three times every century going back for two millennia.

Wrong again. Not only are Arabs protected by the same laws as Jews - they serve in the Parliament. How many Jews serve in the Palestinian government? Egyptian? Iranian? Get back to me when you find out ok? I'll be waiting right here.

"sorry i mean an Israeli arab. I forgot you can't call yourself a palestinian if you live in Israel. Israeli arab it is then."

Have you ever been to Israel? If not you should go, because if you did you would know that in Israel there is freedom of speech. Anyone can call themselves anything. Don't forget to bring your dollars or euros - the Israeli economy could use a boost after all this!

Shhhhh don't tell anyone, Mr.Mrs. Anonymous #2. If they knew that how else would they blame is all on the evil Zionists?

"Palestine has never been a state and will never be a state."

I hope someday it will be. Honestly, truly. I hope the Palestinian "leadership" gets its act together and learns how to responsibly govern as a civil society and there is an independent Palestine right next to Israel. Unfortunately, radicals like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad will never give up their aspirations for Tel Aviv and the rest of the world so I'm kind of skeptical about it.

Thank you again for you post, Ron Mossad, and Mr/Mrs Anonymous for the clarification about the Islam's vision of the world, that really surprised me....Yes, indeed, that's what the majority of people in the West do not know about the real Islam, because if they knew it, they would realize the potential danger of the Islamists who live in Western countries.

Being from a Moslem background, I know this religion very well. I can tell you that Koran, from cover to cover, has called for fighting the non-Muslims; there is no concept of tolerance in it. This emphasizes when it comes to Jews. The Hadiths (Mohammed’s sayings) are full with hatred towards them, He had always called for their uprooting, and to their systematic annihilation. You may have heard or read about Mohamed‘s siege of a Jewish tribe “ Banu Qurayza” who lived in El Medina (Current Saudi Arabia), this siege ended up with the savage massacre of 900 men, where as women were raped, simply because they refused to convert into Islam.

Mohammed has taught his followers, to hate and to fight Jews, because they were the only ones who discovered his lies about his prophecy…The Jews knew that each prophet had at least one miracle, or a proof that he was sent by God, but Mohamed did not have any of them. When they asked him to give a proof he was short of answer.
Don’t be surprised as to why Muslims hate the Jews to this extent: they were brain-washed since their babyhood, and taught to hate them: at home, at school, in the mosques, in their Koran, in mass media, in their books, etc…it became a part of their culture …This culture was forged during 14 centuries so, it is not easy to change it.

RonMossad: Austria is already on their list, I can assure you. Its Islamization is underway full steam. The media and the politicians choose to ignore its repercussions on society in spite of those repercussions being very plain to see. But if Vienna's Socialist mayor continues to chant "Never again, never again" regarding the Holocaust, but also continues to appease Muslims, things will get worse before they get better. And they are getting worse... every day. The newspapers unwittingly testify to that effect: They're filled with stories of migrants killing, looting, and taking advantage of the welfare state.
Oh, and call me an Islamophobe and a racist. Everyone else does too! (sarcasm off)

RonMossad said...

"his siege ended up with the savage massacre of 900 men, where as women were raped, simply because they refused to convert into Islam."

Algerian - this might be the biggest issue of all. The problem isn't just the anti-Jewish and anti-Christian verses from the Qu'ran, it's that Muslims are supposed to emulate Muhammad. The goal is to live your life as he did. And if that's true...well we all know he wasn't exactly the most understanding of ancient figures.

And interestingly enough, the fact that Islam is a 1400 year old religion actually gives me hope. As a Jew, I have learned to take a more macro view of history. It's not about yesterday or a year ago or a month ago. 1400 years may seem old and ancient, but when you really think about it...it's barely a speck of time in the grand view of history. And Judaism has seen the rise or fall (or both) of just about every major empire, religion and movement in the history of civilization.

You have to look back centuries, or in some cases millennia to get an accurate picture of history. So let's take for example what is today a Westernized religion like Christianity.

1400 years into Christianity, the Spanish Inquisition which killed hundreds of thousands of Jews and non-believers hadn't even happened yet. The church was still trying to be dominant force in Europe. There were still centuries to come of pogroms and blood libels against Jews. The Catholic/Huguenot battles hadn't been fought yet. Jews were still widely held responsible for deicide by the Catholic church until the 1960's!

So the way I see it...we only have another 600 or so years of radical Islamic fanaticism before the religion truly moderates.

Might seem like a long time but to a Jew though, in the grand scheme of history 600 years is nothing........

"The media and the politicians choose to ignore its repercussions on society in spite of those repercussions being very plain to see."

This is a great point - not just for Austria but the entirety of the Western world. You would have thought that democratic nations would have learned their lessons about appeasement after WWII, but here we are again. No one says anything about the plain reality that is unfolding in front of their eyes...

"Oh, and call me an Islamophobe and a racist. Everyone else does too!"

...and the people who DO speak up are labeled as racists just for pointing out the fact that Hamas, their followers and their ilk seek not only to destroy the "Zionist entity" - rather they want full world domination.

My last entry before this one was a reprint of a Bob Dylan song interspersed with various quotes from Hamas and their appeasers. Hitler told us what he was going to do, no one believed him, then he did it. Hamas is also telling us what they're going to do - and the world acts as if they would rather wait until they are on even footing with the rest of us before acting!

It's unbelievable!

....I would like to add a little correction to the concept of "Moderate" and "Radical" Muslims or Islam. In fact, there is only one Islam, described in Koran and Mohamed sayings..but the difference lies in the fact that there are Muslims who obey and abide by Koran and Sunnah TO THE WORD and others who DO NOT. So , what you call the Radicals, are those who strictly follow the prescriptions of Islam, and the Moderate are those who do not, because they are influenced by other readings and culture, or simply they lack the will and strictness to do so.

As for the atrocities and crimes committed against Jews and non -believers, by the so-called Christians , through out history,...I personally think that they had nothing to do with the New Testament, those crimes were commited, out of personal reasons, for political and economic ends, not because it was prescribed by Jesus or his disciples.. whereas Muslims were acting out of obedience to Koran, taking Mohamed as their supreme model...Frankly speaking, I do not hope that there would be a reform to Islam, as long as Muslims consider their Book as unchangeable, as the most perfect book, as their Supreme source of laws,...this book which carry inside it, all the factors of violence, hatred, fear, repression, and constitutes initself, the major reason of the decline of Arabs and Muslims. We can't hope for any reform, unless Muslims put aside this book, and get integrated in the world global stream, in other words, to adopt a new vision, new perspectives that are compatible with that of the rest of the world, and to set aside their Supremacist Complex and to start to learn how to livein peace and respect, with the other races, religions and ideologies, to learn from the Western Countries and the Jews how to be more " democrats" and "open-minded", learn how to achieve the well being of people, in a nutshell, to learn how to be beneficial and useful to the whole humanity, and cease to be only a "burden"...They must remember that during the last 7 or 8 centuries, they did not give anything good to the world, except for terrorism, wars, troubles, ....

Elizabeth, don't worry, I personally won't call you islamophobe or racist, and you are right by 10000%....
My advice to governments who tolerate the presence of Islamists on their soils: don't under-estimate the potential danger of Islam and Muslims in your countries, the more you show tolerance towards them, the more they menace your ideologies, democracy , way of life, etc.

RonMossad said...

Algerian - you bring up a good point about the difference between the New Testament and the Qu'ran. Christian ideology is pacifist and Islamic ideology is expansionist. There's no "turn the other cheek" in Islam. So I agree that Christians through the years (I like how you called them "so-called" Christians) who were rioting against Jews weren't following the rules of their religion.

However, there is no question that the teachings of the church through the centuries and the implication of the New Testament was that Judas and the Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. Remember, Pontius Pilate gives the Jews the chance to save Jesus and instead they choose to save Barabbas - who by all descriptions was the biggest jerk in the entire Middle East.

If you think about it on a rational level...if I thought someone had killed my god, I'd be pretty upset too. According to many historians the root of all anti-Semitism stems from that.

Still I do agree that Islam has a lot more in it that it has to get over before it can truly moderate like Christianity has. And the biggest difference/problem is the role model for each.

Jesus = the ultimate pacifist
Muhammad = the ultimate warlord

If you would ask Jesus whether or not to hate the Jews, he would have said he forgives us. If you would ask Muhammad about the Jews...well you already told us what his experience was with our people. Therein lies the problem.

Still I have to hope - that someday, somewhere, my descendants won't have to worry about this anymore. I have to!

Brilliant article.

Anyone capable of rational thought can see that the UN is partisan. Israel behaves far more ethically than ANY of her Arab neighbours, yet the UN leaps at any opportunity to demonise and condemn the Jewish state.

Israel is waging her own War On Terror, as she is entitled and indeed, obliged to do in order to protect innocent civilians who are within range of Hamas missiles.

Just another point, ...Since the begining of the last war between Isrel and Hamas, I have been zapping from channel to another on TV hoping to find one, which depicts this war in particular , and the conflict in general in a neutral, subjective and authentic way...but in vain! I did not find anyone. Everytime, in every news, we are shown palestinien children wounded or dead, women screaming and cursing, demolished buildings, blood everywhere, people running here and there...a very tragic picture, but...NONE of these channel showed us what happened and still happening in the other side ....in Israel, where the civilians have been and are still targetted by Hamas rockets, despite the truce, causing tremendous casualities and damages and yet none of these T.V channels, or newspapers spoke thoroughly and neutrally about this...I was expecting to find western countries more subjective in dealing with the news than arabs, but infortunately, there was not a big difference....
What is happening to the world? why it is going upside-down? Where can I find the truth, at a time when everyone seems to victimize the terrorists and put all the blame on the israeli army and government?
We have always been told that the world mass media is controlled by the Jews...this got some laughs from me.....that can never be true, because if it was so, the way the News are given would be SO MUCH different....

I actually disagree with this Tabatha - it's the same war against Islamic fascism that the West is embroiled in. It's no coincidence that 6 months after Israel left Lebanon, a second intifada kicked off. It's no coincidence that a year after that we had September 11th. People need to understand that it's not about Hamas or al Qaeda or Hizballah or the Muslim Brotherhood. It's all the same force. Even if they hate each other too, they hate us more.

Thank you very much for the support, I'm glad you liked it. Feel free to pass it on to your readers! I checked out your site too, looks like we're pretty clearly on the same side.

Here's the sad part - while it's not true that Jews control all media...a lot of newspapers and magazines have Jewish editors or journalists. Some of the most consistently anti-Israel publications have Jewish editors and reporters.

People tend to forget that the worst anti-Zionists are in fact, Jews. And not just because they're also embarrassing in addition to being stupid.
