The Kinks - Living on a Thin Line: Israel and the world in 2010

Islamic terrorism at levels never seen before, "peace activists" armed with clubs and daggers, the resolve of the West to survive almost non-existent.

We are truly living on a thin line...

The Kinks
Living On A Thin Line
Written by: Dave Davies
Published by: Dabe Music, 1984

All the stories have been told
Of kings and days of old,
But there's no England now.
All the wars that were won and lost
Somehow don't seem to matter very much anymore.
All the lies we were told,
All the lies of the people running round,
Their castles have burned.
Now I see change,
But inside we're the same as we ever were.

Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Living this way, each day is a dream.
What am I, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?

Now another century nearly gone,
What are we gonna leave for the young?
What we couldn't do, what we wouldn't do,
It's a crime, but does it matter?
Does it matter much, does it matter much to you?
Does it ever really matter?
Yes, it really, really matters.

Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?

Now another leader says
Break their hearts and break some heads.
Is there nothing we can say or do?
Blame the future on the past,
Always lost in blood and guts.
And when they're gone, it's me and you.

Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line.

Well done old chap! Have been seeing so much negative media bs about Israel and the IDF lately and this makes me feel better. Reminds me there are still some out there who haven't given in.

Great song and great idea.
I hope you can take some constructive criticism. I hope you will make more video, and hope that my 2 cent can contribute to making them better.

For my taste there were TOOOOOO many pictures flashing TOOOOOOOOOOOO fast.
I could not see anything, it all went tooooooo fast.
I could not read the captures either, too fast, too many.

The images are great and powerful. A person can look at one such image for long time. No need to pack so many.
The graph of qassam rockets attacks requires longer to comprehend.I had to watch it second time and click on "pause" to get that "after Israel leaves Gaza, lives of Israelis get worse".

Also, I think it takes away from the beauty and the power of the images to intersperse them with images of perverted, hypocritical, power hungry politicians. It detracts from the beauty and sacredness of the place. I think it is disgusting to see some idiot shaking hands with the pedophile sodomite Arafat!

Finally "Fight Terror" is a lame slogan. Terror is not an enemy, it is a weapon, or tactics. Jews use (and should) terror, just as Americans, Arabs, Brits, everyone at war uses terror.
Our enemy is not TERROR, our enemy is Islam and Arabs. But perhaps we are to cowardly to face the truth, after all there are 1.5 billion of them enemies.

If the whole world is against you, there's probably a damn good reason.

^^ yeah you're right there is. It's because we killed Jesus 2,000 years ago and rejected Muhammad 1,400 years ago. Maybe it's time to GET OVER THAT already?

Some more reasons why people hate us.

To the faithfreedom.org Anonymous guy - how exactly do I get it up there? I just registered for a blog on the site so that that I can repost stuff there but were you referring to another way? Any help would be great-great-greatly appreciated!

viiit - thank you very much for the constructive criticism it is very much appreciated!! I actually screened this video for quite a few people before releasing it to the public and a lot of people agreed with you that the pictures went by too fast in may cases. I agreed with them as I agree with you but chose to keep it as-is in order to keep pace with the music and create a sense of urgency...that is, the the situation is moving very quickly.

My hope is that the main images as well as most of the slogans register with people on their first viewing - after which they go back and watch it again to catch all the nuances of the captions and everything else. I don't expect anyone to to be able to "read the fine print" so to speak on the initial viewing. It's also my goal (since I am after all, a writer first) to put together an essay that explains and breaks down exactly which pictures were there, why they were where they were and what exactly I'm saying with each one (or each group if they're similar pictures of terrorism for example). The overall message of the video is pretty self-explanatory I hope but there are a lot of sub-messages that no one could figure out on a first viewing simply because as you say...they're bombarded with them too quickly.

Your point on the perverted/hypocritical politicians is well-stated...and is exactly the point. To remind the viewer who exactly we are dealing with here. Interestingly, that "some idiot" that's with Arafat is none other than our dear old friend...Mr. Saddam Hussein. You'll also notice that every photo represented in the initial "Peace in the Middle East" section is of someone who is dead (often by the hands of their own subjects) or in a coma. Draw from that whatever conclusions you wish...

As for the "fight terror" slogan, I also agree that it's a pretty silly thing to fight a tactic...like "fight violence" - it makes no sense and completely misses the point of what we're actually fighting. However, these are the slogans of our time...and the people that come up with these slogans also happen to be our leaders.

Draw your own conclusions from that as well...

In any case, thanks again for your comments. I will probably make more videos in the future - just not in the near future. Like I said, I'm a writer.

Nice video, Ron. But if I may make some technical suggestions...I think the screens where there is text go by too fast. It's fine for people who are well-versed in the subject but for those who are not, it's a bit confusing. It's important for people to be able to read what is on the screens so as to better follow the course of events as presented.
Just a thought.

Everyone else has already said that the pics with text go by to fast, and I read your response, so I won't repeat that complaint.

I will say that I really liked that blue Israeli "Don't tread on me" flag. Now I want to use it for my Pro-Israel poster. But for now I'll take a picture of it and hang on to it til later. (It does say "don't tread on me" in Hebrew, doesn't it? I sure hope so.)

I like the song, and I think you did a good job. If I had a YouTube account (I don't) I would you give you a 'like' and five stars. And a favorite.

(Yes, despite my giant song list on my blog, I don't have a YouTube account. Isn't it wild?)

Excellent video, ronmassad!

I do want to make a couple of comments. At 0:57 of the video, there’s a sign that says “The world must stop Israel”. Well, the person who made the sign missed a few words. If the author of the sign were honest, the sign would have read “The world must stop Israel from defending themselves against the Arab/Muslim aggression.” It also would have deleted the actual final line.

On the other hand, the signs at the 3:33 mark of the video are honest--especially the first one.

RonMossad said...

TARNS you are correct! In Hebrew it says "Ahl Titz-ahd Ahl-eye" which literally translated means "Don't march on me" but that's basically the same thing anyway...

And no, I don't believe you don't have a Youtube account...but I guess I have to!

RonMossad said...

JeffE that's a very astute observation about the sign at the 3:33 mark being the most accurate...unfortunately it's also the only fake one. :( The irony was intentional.

RonMossad said...

Thanks for the comments barenaked...I took some artistic license in this video - a lot of my reasons for why the images move the way they do is in my response "viiit" right above your post. But your point is well taken, I've gotten similar responses from others.

The next video I make (whenever that happens) will be more educational, less emotional.

JeffE said...

Thank you, RonMossad. I also knew--or at least guessed--that the signs at 3:33 were fake. But whoever did do those signs did the same thing that I did in my comment about the sign at the 0:57 mark. I would like to see more of that kind satire/irony.

RonMossad said...

JeffE - I hear you...satire/humor is the only way to convey the message sometimes. Otherwise it just gets too depressing!!

Ron, after a very long weekend mourning for a virtual insult, the mixed reality between daily life and Second Life, getting to know about your blog and watching this video has been real relieving: "THE WHOLE WORLD IS AGAINST US, NEVERMIND WE'LL OVERCOME." I could not have said it better. Thanks for your work.

A job well done. G-d bless the USA and Israel. Hopefully in 2012, we will have voted out the muslim and find a real american that we can trust and will do the right thing for us and our strong ally, Israel. Be strong and live by these words: Semper fi..

"Fred's" comment came into my inbox, so I moseyed on over and saw the video again. Still powerful.
Will be in Israel middle of June, for 2 months(see my blog).
Hope you are well.
